The SuperCam instrument is the camera of martian rover Perseverance. It is a real Swiss knife, enabling to perform analyses by LIBS spectroscopy, Raman and infrared light. SuperCam is also equipped with a color camera and a microphone, to listen to the noise of laser shots and martian winds.

Comat was deeply involved in the SuperCam project from design phases. Indeed, the SME complies with the strict constraints of space manufacturing. During nearly 4 years, the SME has conceived more than 2,000 mechanical parts for the 5 prototypes and the flight model. Comat’s engineers have then integrated the instrument in clean rooms with IRAP’s and CNES’s teams. They have brought together their skills from assembly and tests to delivery at NASA’s Jet Propulsion Laboratory in the USA.
