Our Story

Comat is a space equipment manufacturer based in Toulouse, France, dedicated to designing and producing reliable hardware for space missions.

From precision mechanisms to propulsion fluidics and scientific platforms, we develop critical spacecraft equipment that enables satellites, exploration systems, and research missions to operate successfully in space.

Our approach combines engineering expertise, industrial capabilities, and a strong culture of innovation, allowing us to support customers from concept design to serial production.

More than a supplier, Comat acts as an industrial partner for space programs, working alongside agencies (CNES, ESA, NASA, JAXA…), research institutions (CNRS, ONERA…), and commercial space companies to bring complex systems from ideas to flight.

1977

Founding of Comat.

The space adventure begins alongside CNES.

1996

Mission Cassiopée.

Claudie Haigneré becomes the first French woman in space, aboard the Russian space station Mir. Comat contributes to the Fertile experiment.

2001

Photon mission, with CNES

Comat is providing IBIS—its very first biological incubator—as well as the Crocodile experiment, which is dedicated to materials science.

2004

KUBIK is arriving at the ISS.

This biological incubator, designed by Comat for ESA, will be used to conduct numerous scientific experiments there.

2008

3POD Project

Comat reaches a milestone with its first major mechanism, designed for in-orbit demonstration and validation (IOD/IOV).

2010

New management, new direction

Comat affirms a vision fully focused on the space sector.

2012

The Curiosity rover lands on Mars.

It carries ChemCam, its state-of-the-art analysis camera, ready to study the Red Planet.

2020

The Perseverance rover is now arriving on Mars.

As the successor to Curiosity, it carries SuperCam, an even more advanced analysis instrument.

2021

Mission Alpha.

For his second flight, Thomas Pesquet launches aboard SpaceX’s Falcon 9 and conducts several experiments involving Comat: Télémaque, Blob, and KUBIK.

2024

KINÉIS constellation

First successful launch: 5 satellites carrying Comat’s deployable antennas and RW40 reaction wheels have reached orbit. 20 more to follow!

2024

KUBIK is celebrating its 20th anniversary aboard the ISS, boasting the record for the number of experiments conducted on the station.

2025

Saturne Plant

Comat is building a new facility dedicated to the serial production of equipment for current and future constellations.

2026

Mission Epsilon

Sophie Adenot is heading to the ISS for her first flight, a nine-month mission. Comat ensured the safety of the hardware for several of the experiments she will conduct there.

2027

50 years of space expertise.

An SME with the stature of a major player.
